AGAWAM — As northern California reels from two fires at the world’s largest lithium-ion battery facility, officials in Agawam are getting ready to welcome one.
Eric Weinstein, the New England project developer for Lowell-based New Leaf Energy, said his company’s planned 5-megawatt battery system is safer and much smaller than the Moss Landing facility about 70 miles south of San Francisco, which produced toxic smoke when it burned Jan. 16 and Feb. 18.
